I have generally been smiling every day since coming across the pond to Europe. For 3 weeks, I traveled around the continent before coming to Kandersteg. While on a train ride from Paris, France to Kandersteg, I caught my first glipse of the towering Swiss alps, rising above the valleys as silent protectors. Needless to say I had the biggest smile on my face.
Being from the United States, I have lived and seen many smiles across my country. I have swam with sharks in Florida to crossing the deserts of the Southwest. But of all the places that bring a smile to my face, are the memories from Alaska. It is the state that I call home and nothing gets me excited like a new layer of snow to ski on or an unclimbed route. In many ways, Kandersteg reminds me of Alaska, with endless mountain adventures.
Here at Kandersteg, I work in the program department as a climbing guide. Not only am I passionate about climbing, I am even more passionate about sharing my love of climbing with others. While it can be tough, there is nothing like seeing the smiles on a Scout's face when they have climbed something they deemed impossible. It is climbing and other outdoor sports that make us better people, by challenging us physicaly, mentally and emotional.
If you see me hanging on a rock or just hanging around the Center, I will be sure to give you a smile and make sure your enjoying your summer here at KISC!
