The amazing experience up in the Swiss Alps

Hey, I’m Annie and I’m from the UK! Delighted to be Smile of the Week after nearly 3 months of smiling in the wonderful place that is KISC.

Even if the weather is slowly showing signs of turning autumnal, there is still just under 2 weeks of summer to enjoy here at the Centre. In a couple of weeks many of this season’s staff will leaving Kandersteg and heading off in different directions around the globe but with that said, there are still plenty of reasons to be smiling. The final campfire of the season looms, the last few guided activities are being run and for the staff, end of season festivities are close by. Another factor adding to my XXL smile this week was jumping out of a plane at over 4000m above the Swiss Alps - what a way to spend a day off!

As a hike guide I am lucky enough to be up in the beautiful mountains nearly everyday of the week. That’s pretty much all I need to have a constant smile on my face. But what’s even better is taking groups out on hikes and getting to know them, having fun and helping them achieve things they once thought they could not. My fellow hike guides are awesome too (as are all the staff here may I add!) but coming back from a long day’s hiking to see their smiling faces and hear their awful jokes is the best, of course a comparison of hikes is obligatory - weather, routes, group banter, food (we all still love packed lunches, right?), blisters, momentary disorientation, boots, huts, number of strange Swiss people wearing sandals on the glacier… The list goes on and on.

The last three months have absolutely flown by but when I think of all the opportunities, experiences and friendships that I’ve been privileged to be a part of this summer I can’t help but smile.
